A Night of Rum & Rhythm in Antigua
Some things in Antigua Guatemala change, new restaurants, fresh experiences, a different pace of life, but others, like the joy of salsa, stay the same. And honestly, we wouldn’t want it any other way.
This time, though, we eased into the dance floor a little differently. First, with a glass of fine Guatemalan rum in hand. Before stepping into the rhythm of Latin America, we took a detour into its flavors, learning about the country’s deep-rooted tradition of rum-making. From the sugarcane fields of the lowlands to the cool, high-altitude aging process that gives Guatemalan rum its smooth complexity, each sip told a story. A little history, a little warmth, and just enough liquid courage to get moving.
Then came Gloria.
If you’ve spent any time in Antigua, you’ve probably heard of her. She’s been teaching salsa here for years, long enough that some of Viaventure’s founders took their very first steps with her. She has that rare kind of energy—welcoming, patient, and endlessly passionate about getting people to move. Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or have never stepped foot on a dance floor, Gloria makes sure you don’t just learn the steps—you feel the music.
The night unfolded the way the best ones do in Antigua: effortlessly. Laughter, a little trial and error, and eventually, that undeniable moment when everything clicks. The rhythm takes over, and suddenly, you’re dancing.
Some traditions stick around for a reason.
