Behind the Magic: Bringing REMOTE to Life in Antigua
When REMOTE Latin America chose Antigua, Guatemala for its 2025 edition, it marked the first time the immersive travel event took place in the country. As the local DMC partner, Viaventure faced a unique challenge: to welcome over 250 travel professionals and deliver a week of rich, cultural activities, all happening at once across the city and surrounding areas.
Twenty Groups, One Mission
Over three packed days, we coordinated 20 groups across 14 immersive experiences, each designed to showcase the depth and vibrancy of Guatemala. From rum tastings and salsa dancing to coffee roasting, textile weaving, and jade carving, every activity celebrated the beauty of Antigua and the richness of Guatemalan culture. Just as important, they created space for REMOTE attendees to connect with each other. Behind the scenes, our job was to make each moment feel effortless.
What It Took to Make It Happen
Pulling this off meant getting the whole Viaventure team involved. We brought in guides from all over Guatemala. Before the event, they visited the experiences they would lead, met local providers, and bonded as a team. That preparation helped everything run smoothly once guests arrived.
Our operations team handled transfers and transportation from morning to night. They made sure guests moved comfortably between hotels, dinners, activities, and REMOTE talks. Meanwhile, our accounts team ensured that providers were paid promptly and fairly. And of course, our guides were always present, offering context, warmth, and support to every guest.
We leaned on long-standing relationships with local artisans and also reconnected with providers we hadn’t worked with in years. One standout was Gloria, the salsa teacher who taught one of Viaventure’s founders how to shake his hips more than two decades ago. She lit up the dance floor on closing night, bringing the week to a joyful, full-circle close.
The End Result
A REMOTE that many called the best yet, one where the logistics ran smoothly, the details felt thoughtful, and the connection between place and people was palpable. The feedback from REMOTE’s team and attendees made one thing clear: what made this edition stand out wasn’t just what was seen, but how it all came together. The professionalism behind the scenes. The storytelling at the core. And the genuine warmth that Guatemala so effortlessly brings.
